What should I choose?

My current domain name is thai-dragonfly.com

We organise volunteer placements in Thailand but will soon be moving into other countries, so I'd like to change our name to something like dragonfly-volunteers.com

I've heard it's not good practice to have Hyphens in your url. If so, would search engines be able to read dragonflyvolunteers.com ?

Don't listen to people that tell you that it's not good practice to use hyphens in your domain name...It's malarky. Look up the term "lost forum" and see who comes up first......My point exactly.

It really doesn't matter if you have hyphens or not, google will index it either way, All you need is good content.

You are right, if your domain doesn't contain any targetted keyword it's not inportant to use hypen. But if we talk about a keyword rich domain it would be irresponsibility to claim that the hypens don't matter, since they do. There is a nice cliché which says that seo starts with the domain selecting

hyphens arent important; only your domain helps you on searching keywords, only care about its length.

I think people, who ever tried to optimize website for better search engines rankings know the name of Aaron Wall. He wrote a really famous ebook about seo. If you search for the keyphrase "seo book" you will see the #1 result will be his authority page. If you do a modified search with the allinurl google operator using this way "allinurl:seo book" you won't see the above mentioned result since search engines can't recognise the keywords in the URLs, because they aren't separated by hypens. I suggest you to take a quick look at the top ten results, you may find that interesting.
