Default If I use keywords in colour or italics is that as good as bold face for Google?

Recently you guys were very good about type sizes, and keyword emphasis, and I learnt a lot. Thank you.

How about getting emphasis through the use of colour, or italics? I'm told that Lady Google likes to look at Bold Face. Can't remember who told me.

What do you think boys and girls? That Old Guy from Wales will know for sure.

If you emphasise keywords in the text with bold they are treated as more prominent than standard text. I cant say whether the same hold true for italics. Dont overdo it though, a mixture of emphasised and non emphasised seems more natural.

I think that heading tags <h1></h1> <h2> etc. are even better than bolding.

True, but how much can you get into heading tags? Need to disperse keywords across different types of tags in order to:
1 have a sensible, readable document
2 dont get penalised for a form of keyword stuffing

Use bold or italic once per page for your keywords or two.
avoid to write all your web page copy with bold or italic.
use <strong> is more important than bold.

I agree with alan avoid keywords stuffing and do not forget that onpage optimization are less importance than off page optimization.
Do the onpage techniques right without mistake and start to promote your web site to get links.

Well, for the long tail, on page is more important.....For the big tail, anchor text plays a bigger part. As far as italics and bold, use them sparingly...And as far as header tags, use them properly..In other words, use header tags to structure your page in a hierarchical style. Think of your page as a table of contents...Use h1 to define the meaning of the page, h2 to define sub-structures, and h3 to define structures beneath the h2's.....
