Old thread closing

Is there some rules that closes threads after a number for days.

There have been a number of threads I've been following with interest or commented on and then I went away for a good while( a few weeks+) and now return to see the threads again, then wanting to add a comment on them and they are all closed :sad:

What's the point of closing threads?

They are automatically closed after 30 days of inactivity. The biggest reason for this is because some people will post on older threads because of the higher PR simply to get their link on a high PR page. It's a real problem when the threads aren't closed, and it happens several times per day.

I don't have any problems re-opening a particular thread that has been closed for well established members like yourself, just drop me a PM with a link to the thread that you would like to comment on and I'll re-open it for you.

Yep. So the idea of closing them seems silly, because if anyone wanted to misuse then they bump them every 30 days or less!

Yes, you can bump a thread to keep it active after 7 days. The idea of closing the thread isn't because we don't like the idea of inactive threads being brought back.....It's to keep the PR whores from stealing long term members PR glory...

I don't understand what your saying. How/what is PR whores? How can they steal? How can closing topic help when topics can be bumped to stop them closing?

Well, when a topic gets to being say.....4 months old...Sometimes it gains a PR value of 3 or 4, sometimes more...There are people who go to forums that look for those pages just so that they can post in that thread with their signature link and get a PR3 or PR4 backlink....Threads can be bumped to keep them alive, but the system actually works pretty well, because most of the threads that have PR have been closed. That's not to say that it works all the time, but it does work.
