![]() | Can anyone shed any light on this - I've been reading that whilst you can not control the sites that link to you very easily, back linking to 'bad neighbour' sites can affect PR and SERP placement. I can figure out what a link farm is, but how do you recognise them, is there a list compiled anywhere of recognized bad neighbours etc. Just one more hole for newbies like me to stumble into blind!

![]() | I don't know if there is an index of bad neighbour sites and doubt there is. In general though, if google bans a site you can see this with the google toolbar insofar as the PageRank is grey (grey barred). |

![]() | link farms are link pages with thousands of unrelated links. This is what causes problems. Try to get links from relevent sites with good PR and you will never have to worry for the most part. When you check backlinks you need to check for the greybared sites like steve said. a lot of people think a link farm is a link exchange site, this is NOT true. Linking to a site that has 2000 links in its link pages and only 20 of them are relevent to their site would be considered a link farm. Understand? Also I would not worry at all about who links to you, You will never be penalized by google for someone linking to you. If this could happen then it would be easy to destroy your comp. you could build a few sites that would get greybared and then point them at the comp and get rid of them. This is not the case. the guys at google are smarter than that. Last edited 03-11-2006 at 06:32 AM. |

![]() | So, I guess the answer is no then. Shame there is not a feed of 'Greyed out sites'. That would make things easier!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You can usually identify a link-farm by look at it's content. Sites with less text but many links will usually indicate a bad neighbour. NOTE: Sites with high PageRank are usually good neighbours. ![]()

![]() | The best give way is for an old site that has a PR of ZERO. That tells you that they are banned by Google. The problem is that most of those submissions had been done using software. The "Download and send your link to 20,000 FFA links" type of software can cost you money! |

I don't think that you are giving correct info. There are plenty of old sites (older than 1 year) with 0 PR that are indexed -and therefore not banned- by Google. | |
