For image purposes I want to keep the index page open, and use a large photograph. I've got to design it for the customers first. But not far behind the customers Lady Google lies in wait.

So we use a small type size for headers on each page with main keywords, 8pt, then with more keywords we use 10pt, and for body text we use 12pt. (The keywords are in proper sentences, I try not to be too dumb.)

On the index page I colour this text gray, because I want people to get the feel of our location, and see the the photograph. I don't want the text to dominate. We are not into hard sell.

On one inside page, we use 8pt text for the body copy and a fair amount of it.

I'm hoping you experts will say that neither of these things matter. Though presumably if we put the tye size too low then we'll get penalised for cheating - or whatever the technical term is.

Wotchafink, experts? Thanks,

John

No it doesn't affect Google is based on the contents and quality links.... and your font is still visible to Google and to the users right? as long as it visible to human eyes don't worry... 10pt is still ok..

Hi there,

OldWelshGuy, tell them what you told me. I will still need to hear from an official source, but if what you are saying is true OldWelshGuy you are perfectly right.

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

What have I started? You guys really are brilliant. I've got a new site to do, can I sum up what you are saying?

Better to have headlines in larger bold type with keywords
Sub heads a bit smaller
Body text can be smaller still
Top left is preferred to bottom right
Get the keywords into the Headers rather than body copy
It is not the actual type size which matters, it is their relationship to each other.

(I like my pages to look nice, so I don't want to shout.)

My new site is about short-breaks scotland and I've got masses of directories to get past, they fill the first ten pages. I can use smaller search terms such as Highlands or Glencoe, but really people look for Scotland first.

I am a partner in a company that runs a wales site called www.stayinginwales.com you will be surprised what people search for Do the keyword research carefully and througoughly. including location names etc.

Once your site is up, give us a shout we can trade some links internally contenxtually (the best links of all). Don't take SIW as a guide though as I had to try and sort out an unholey mess when I became involved with this site (we have a few others in that company as well). It is page 1 for accommodation wales though top 5 so we must have done something right LOL

Ok OldWelshGuy - I don't feel good calling you that. Perhaps YoungWelshBrain? Sounds good to me.
I have a travellers blog with a pr4 and this is good for one way links. We could use it now if you like.
