It's not the blog that helps PR but the links from the page in the site. However you may recall the introduction of the "rel=nofollow" in the link tag. This was at the request specifically of Google, but was to be adopted by Yahoo and MSN (dont now if this has been implemented here). The idea was to prevent comment spam from blogs. A number of blogs signed up to this and for each time a link was added in a blog the rel=nofollow parameter would also be added into the link, hence disallowing any PR that the link might give to the page. That was only applied to the comments though not the admistrator controlled elements ie page content, navigation.

Yes Welsh but on the blog it'all set up for update links blogroll and add new entries,all you have to do is to press only one button...

You confused me saying a one page blog, I assumed you mean setting a blog up and only ever having one page on there which seemed odd

I thought relevent content is most important. Blog, directory, or whatever, does not matter much if the content isn't related to yours, right?

Blog is a web site and get links from web blog or web site are the same.
Get one blog is more important than to build hundreds blogs with just one page.
One quality blog will help you to get more links from others blogs and you will be considered an authority blog for your niche market.
After you build your blog point links not just to your web sites but start to point to others blogs and use social networking such as mybloglog.com.

I have a sneaking suspicion that blogs will soon be obselete in the eyes of Google/?!!

Old Welsh, I've had good results with our blog site, in building traffic and helping the main site's Pr which the blog links to.

I've now taken off the link to the blog from the index page of the main site (Pr4), but left the link to the main site from the Blog (also Pr4) to make it non-reciprocal. I hope you would agree this helps.

But I noticed that the blog when new went to Pr4 very quickly with only a couple of pr4 links to it, no more than 20 links in all. It is a sensible and relevant blog with stories of what people do on their holidays in Scotland, freqently updated.

I've noticed the same thing happening with another non-relevant blog site which has got to pr3 quite quickly, again with few inbound links.

Do you believe that the Google algorithm is identical for blogs as for web sites?

No it most certainly is not, as links is Blog roll's are worth FAR more

I have given away information for nothing for the last 15 years or more, 12 of which were online. It is how I am it is what I do. It has helped me to make friends and influence people LOL Seriously though I believe in the philosophy of 'giving back'. People have helped me when I have been stuck on a technical or coding issue.

It helps 'coz blogs is a good one way links..

Directory links are sometimes reciprocal.

That's why you said blog is increasing pagerank more than directory links.

By the way pageranks depends on your quality links not only blogs alone

The more quality links you have the higher the PR...
