Most free web hosting companies are not reliable, they either have ad's all over your page, or last for a couple of months and then disappear.

Ya I agreed. There are many low investment hosting services out there. They provide more features and normally they are more reliable. You can visit http://www.sbscircle.com/resource for some good hosting service provider.

I'd go for cheap web hosting services instead, you can find hosting services as cheap as $0,01 if you wish, but still for a few buck you'll get support plus a lot of additional features and at least some hope for stability, especilally if there's a proven record history of service. look at www.webhostingbuzz.com, www.greenlush.com.

Personally I'd recommend visiting http://www.freewebspace.net and http://www.freewebhostingtalk.com when searching for a free host to start with
