Backlinks contribute an important factor in Google PR but not one really knows how do they actually influence. I have seen cases of site linking to normal sites and having a lot of backlinks which still have a low PageRank. While there are sites with a few backlinks but have a high PR.

HI Aby, We do know how the pagerank algorithm works as it is well documented and in fact is on the google website

It is NOT the number of links that is the main metric, it is the VALUE of your COMBINED links that make up your PR.

You should look for quality and high PR relevant backlinks this will help you for PR...... also i will suggest you to update your site more frequently with fresh content.

High PR backlinks do not help you rank better, Nor does updating the site more often

I have covered this in other threads a few times, so have others. Oddly enough on forums, one of the LEAST used buttons is the 'search' button

A lot of guys claim they break the Google code. Well they have to prove it by ranking on top of search engines for ultra competitive keywords rather than just rantling online.

Backlinks is the biggest secret when it comes to pagerank and only pagerank.

For serps it might be more to it.
