Rankings on MSN

My site is currently second for "Free Webmaster Directory" and should take over first result soon!

Anyone else have good rankings on MSN?

it is easiest to get first ranking in msn... links is all that matters at the moment. I had pleasant experience with msn for many websites.

I'm doing okay on MSN, lots of 1s & 2s for good keywords.

Your post, micro, caused me to have a look at how I was faring with the Big 3. Some background first.

Two months ago I set up a blog to complement my corporate site. A month ago I started submitting some of the blog posts to a large number of article directories. I have submitted four articles on the basis of roughly one per week. So let's say that the first article was submitted four weeks ago, the second three weeks ago, etc.

Tonight I entered the most appropriate keyword phrase for each article and checked for top ten rankings with each of the search engines. Here are the results:

"Rugby strength"
Google -
Yahoo 1, 4, 9
MSN 4, 5, 9

"Explosive strength"
Google -
Yahoo -
MSN 5, 8

"Maul height"
Google 2, 10
Yahoo -
MSN 3, 4, 8

"Hip flexor strength"
Google 8
Yahoo -
MSN 1, 2, 5, 8

My uninformed interpretation of these results is firstly, that MSN is trawling websites much more frequently than the other two. This is confirmed by StatCounter which records the MSN bot passing through both of my sites quite frequently, Google very infrequently and I haven't noticed Yahoo visiting in the past month.

My other thought is that MSN seems to give much greater prominence to recent activity than does Google.

What do others think?

As an aside, I could not have got top ten rankings for these keyword phrases which are important to my company without setting up the blog and without submitting articles. The net monetary cost - zero. The cost in time - prodigious. But I feel that it has been very worthwhile as I am at last getting some traction, and the articles and posts will keep working for me into the future.

Get ready for MSN to grow and get stronger.
I find it easy to get high in MSN right now. I can hit #1 with most of my sites and I don't mean for my site name either.I'm talking about hard keywords.
MSN does NOT rely heavily on back links at this time
While it is some what a factor with them, I can get a site listed and in the number 1 - 8 slot within 10 days. (No links at all)
MSN however is getting ready to position themselves. They have launched their own pay-per-click testing pages. I was invited to test with them. They also are coming out with a new BETA system. It will start to use the same system as google with link checker. There is some talk about any site with a PR checker bar on it being banned from the searches as well. Keep an eye on them.

There update sucks! As from June my traffic has gone to near zero.

hmm no offense, but seriously: is that a good thing or a bad thing overall. Just speaking objectively. Some sites need to be de-ranked, while others should be up there due to relevance, quality or popularity. Not judging or knowing your sites, I'm interested in finding out where they are headed and what improvement they are making (if any).

Any idea? when will msn update next? My site links have gone down from thousands to about a hundred, while links on yahoo have gone up substantially.

Hi there,

Yeah MSN is pretty easy to get into, before I launched my site and within about 24 hours I was on the first page for good keywords, although that was a while ago now.

Google and Yahoo are a little more demanding and depending on SEO they will crawl your site quickly or slowly.
