![]() | It certainly can- making you're site appear less "spammy" and making all pages accessible within two clicks of your home page can be useful. By making you're site appear less spammy I mean don't over do keyword density, don't link to too many external domains (and perhaps use nofollow- though personally I dont like this).... |

| Junior Member | It all depends on how many times did you update your site monthly and also number of links you got in a month. |

![]() | Talking about site redesign you would certainly loose some PR if you have moved/renamed a lot of pages that had PR already, so it will take some time until Google will find your "new" pages and assigns the appropriate PR to them. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong) Also I have a question of my own here: Does the actual url of a certain page matter for its PR? Example: A page is located at http://www.drumsoloartist.com/Site/About.html Will it improve the pages PR if I will move it to http://www.drumsoloartist.com/About.html In other words a shorter URL (1 folder less) Thanks |

It can change but just a little bit. Take care about BL, content, and good alt's for your designs even. | |

![]() ![]() | IF during the design you renamed our pages then OF COURSE you will lose Pr as the pages that held the PR are no longer in existence. if you EVER alter a file name then you should redirect the page using a 301 permanent redirect in the HTACCESS file (assuming you are on apache) or using ISAPI rewrite for a Windoze server. What do you think happens if there are links pointing to yourdomain.com/store/product#1 if product #1 no longer exists? Well the PR that WAS being passed to that page will simply be lost, gone forever, adn WORSE than that is that when the people who WERE going to buy that item so bookmarked it , when they returtn they will get a nice fat 404 error also. Using a 301 will ensure that traffic is immediately transferred to the right page, and PR will follow in an update or two. TO DRUMSOLO. The closeness to the root does not matter, it is the navigation structure that affects PR not the file structure, although the file/folder structure will affect the perceived importance of files within the site. Site architecture is very important for SEO BUT PAGERANK IS NOT ![]()

![]() | I had the same question, I think as long as you are not spamming and everything seems legit your pr should crawl back up

Could you explain how navigation structure is different from site structure? |

![]() ![]() | A Flat navigation structure is when each page of the site links to every other page. A hierarchical navigation structure is when the main page links to main cluster pages within the site, which in turn link to child pages within that cluster. The child page link back to it and the homepage. This can be achieved in one single folder with one single index page. File structure is when there is one main root, and the main cluster pages are also index pages in a sub folder. ie domain.com/cats/index page here You can still have a flat navigation structure for this set-up, but most people chose to have a hierarchical navigation structure with this type of file structure. Hope that better explains things.

![]() | Guess if you redesigned with lots of fancy Flash files and internal links are not sticky, that probably would affect. Hope that answers. |
