Any site listed under Premium and Featured Links in directories are under threat. That is if Google don't want to exclude directories in their algorithm.

My site is listed under Featured in many directories.

I heard that too. This is stupid. I have Featured and Sponsored sections on my website, but actually not of the links placed under these sections are paid. So If the rumors are true then my website will be penalised FOR NO REASON.

Just rename those sections to "favorites" "check these out" and you are one step ahead.

I doubt that the algarithm can find paid links on its own, that is why they are requesting people to submit a report.

However, if the "paid link" site uses certain phrases, such as "purchase a link" and then punish any addresses from these sites.

I don't understand the difference between paying for a human-edited directory submission and a "paid link". Does Google intend to punish those that are in these directories sites as well ? For instance BOTW.com.

What about sites where you bid for top placement of your text link on a page?

Or paying for advertising links, such as banners? This would basically be a "paid link", if they are using normal html.

Lastly, what if someone pays for a competitor to be listed on one of these sites and then reports them to Google? Yikes!

I think this will be a big grey area as to what qualifies.

Nowadays bid directories are on top to get our site listed on top of the main page...will they be closed or banned

and yeah what if someone pays for a competitor to be listed as sponsored listing ... then it would be banned or what ???

It is very hard, if not nearly impossible for Google to be able to distinguish between paid and natural links via just an algorithm or set of. And many of the largest sites, which rank well in Google sell paid links.

Personally I believe this idea would unbalance online advertising effects on search rankings even more than it is now.
