| Junior Guru | I have looked into this subject for a while, because HTML is my favorite language (if not obvious). XML is a mock-up of HTML which is easier to use, because you create your own tags. But will XML replace HTML all together? Will XML take the place of the base of the web itself? I personally, although sad to say, it will, because of its ease of use and universiallity (is that a word), but will HTML come out with some new tags that will depreciate CSS and XML all together? Help me out on this matter. HTMLGuy

![]() | It is not going anywhere in the short-term. XHTML standards are all screwed up and don't work. IE the most widely used browser does not support xml and it is not being added to IE7. All the widely used server side generation languages know how to do HTML, but most need help for xlm. Even a siple thing like RSS feeds are a mess becasue there are 9 different standards in us. The only reason they work is because the browsers have ha high tolerance for trash. HTML will change, it always has, but the browser manufactures continue, and will continue to support obsolete elements because there are millions of page that will quite workinf if they don't. Direct statically written HTML will probably never dropp to less than 20% of pages, and I doubt will will ever see a day where less than 60% of pages are using HTML. It is specialized and optimized for genral web usage. XML id broader and less specific in its optimization. So for specialized applications that need a unique format xml will get used, but for general pages HTML wil remain the quickest easiest and most reliable way to deliver the final quickly. IMHO, but I've only been in IT for 40 years so what do I know... I'm a dinosaur

| Junior Guru | Hehe, thanks for the post, but xml is supposed to be widely supported in IE8 ( i saw some beta news, my friend works at Microsoft ( don't ask me to tell him what to improve I already tried )) and html will start a decrease. Already most of the commands in html are being taken over by css.HTMLGuy

![]() | Hmmm... I must be missing something. Perhaps you could post some links to sites that are doing that. I know Yahoo started down that road and got somany complaints that they have moved back to HTML4.01, but that is just one site.

| Junior Guru | Look at the following code you can use in css HTML Code:
I believe that this is close ( I found it on www.cssdrive.com ), but html or xhtml will be only needed for doctypes and pulling it all together, where xml is much easier to use...that's where I am coming from. Somebody please prove me wrong! ![]() HTMLGuy
