Default Find out what search terms visitors find you with.

I found this when browsing the blogosphere this morning. It's a site that tracks hits from search engines. It tells you what search engine sent visitors, and it gives the search term that they used to find your site, and the time.

You need to place a small bit of javascript on each page between the body tags that you want to track. It's much easier if yours site uses a templating system.

www.hittail.com

Did I mention it's free? Well, I have several sites that I want to track, and plus it's worth it, so I am going to buy the membership for $5.00 a month.

Nice find!
Have signed up and added their tracking script to my main page templated for my blog site.
Results are instantly live, works very well.
The free service is for up to 100,000 hits per month which will cover me for now I think!

Thanks for the info

Is it more accurate than other webstats programs?

This isn't a webstats script....It is more specific....It tells you what search terms are being used to find your site, and at what time those terms are being searched. As far as stats go, this is far better than Awstats is.

It's different from Google Analytics, in that it's 100% focused on keywords, and helping you to find out over time what keywords are more popularly used to find your site.

Their angle is that by focusing on the lesser used terms and creating content for them, you can gain more traffic overall.

With ranks.nl you also have your key-wordsanalyzed. Are they similar?

In regard to free vs. premium (actually, plus), there's just a few things, like having your suggestions emailed to you, an RSS feed, ability to run on https, and an analysis of whether the code is installed correctly that sets the plus service apart from free.

You can build your own tracking script. You can use PHP to get the "Referer" parameter form the headers.
The "Referer" returns the address of the page (if any) which referred the user agent to your website.

The returned referer will look like this:

By splitting this string you can easily get the searched keywords. (iwebtool in this case)

A script like this won't take more than 10 min to build.

I admit that some tracking services are more accurate than this script, but I consider that my website statistics should be kept private. I don't like others to know what websites are bringing me most traffic or for what keyword is my site found on search engines.
