Default So you think you're a Web Guru ?

Well?

I'm a web designer and web developer (professionally) for a large UK firm for about 8 years. I eat/sleep and love web technologies including SEO.

Which got me thinking.......if you're reading this post then there is a good chance you are too.......

Which got me thinking again........

What if.....we grouped our talents together and produced a website that potentially (in time) could be worth millions.

Pipe Dream? not feasible? it just wouldn't work?

I'm sure that some of you here that are reading this are confident of your skills, to the point where you know something 110%, maybe it's SEO, maybe it's web development, maybe it's web design, maybe it's marketing...whatever.

A colleague of mine did the same, and 4 years down the line they were offered 8 million pounds (15 million USD) for their website.

It only consisted of 6 web guru's

2x Web Developers
2x Web Designers
2x SEO Experts

+ 1 table spoon of entrepeneurialship and enthusiasm twice daily.

No salary

The SEO kings managed to get 4000 direcory backlinks in 9months.

The Web Developers in the mean time built and maintained the system, and the designers made it look beautiful.

They also had good fun.

I was thinking of doing the same. I have a few feasible good ideas but don't have the budget to build all areas.
I'm not an seo king but I'm s**t hot at Web Design and Development.

It was a business venture by hobbiests, those that love it so much they wouldn't care if it failed, each contributed their 6pence worth and it paid off. Joe after work built the system with Dave, Mike and Tim concentrated in their spare time on the design...and Pete and Andy just soley did directory submissions. It was teamwork...good teamwork. It paid off! by the time Joe and Dave completed a first working system....Pete and Andy already had 4000 linkbacks PR of 5 and got them out of the sandbox.

Ok they have to splits the profit.....so what...who cares what you know you've got a website that's worth 8 million. That's at least 1.3 million each.

Who knows maybe the next MySpaces, Bebo might just be around the corner.

They were offered but didn't accept as they believe they could potentially make more. It's inside info, so will share when the cat is out of the bag.

That's what I'm doing with Yaxal, two programmers (both of which are highly educated in SEO), one of which is me, who is a big time developer.

Hi there,

I am developing a website like this at the minute, www.naxbase.com . It is still under major development, but I think it could be big.

If you are willing to lay some ideas on the table, I may join you in the website quest.

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

Hi Kieran,

What exactly is Naxbase
?

Also I'd like to point out that , we are the Guru's, we are all searching for that next big web success, if we put our heads together I reckon we could do some damage.

I'm up for a team effort. I'm busy with other projects now, but I could offer help in SEO and coding in about 2 weeks. Let me know what you have in mind.

Possible, but you need to find the right people, who are dedicated, have time and patience, and guru's in their fields. Also the right idea.. hmm.. it is not easy. If your partners are friends for a long time and know each other well, you have a better chance!

Ok people.

Let's look at this realistically.

1. We don't get paid

And probably never will. However, when you look at the Youtube guys they didn't make a penny when that actually owned Youtube, they were out of pocket paying for hosting.

My philosophy has always been that in most cases the value of a website has little nothing to do with the revenue that it makes.

Look at Digg....or even Wikipedia. Wikipedia Worth $31 Million.

2. We are all working on our own projects

Yes. That's right, I wouldn'expect any of you to drop your tools and current projects to jump on this one. However, setting a side maybe 1 day a week to concentrate on this project is a start.

3. We don't know each other

Not on a personal level anyway. Which means anybody in the group can steal the project and do it themselves. That's life. However, I would stress that ideas are useless without proper application. Also the majority of us don't have the budget to complete the project.

Expecially when you need on board good SEO Experts, Web Designers, Web Developers, Marketers, Project Managers and Business experts.

4. It has a good chance of failing

Members of the project get board, do nothing and the whole thing falls apart. Be prepared or this.
